“We rise by lifting others.”

― Robert Ingersoll

This quote perfectly describes Sue.  I had the honor of working with her in my previous school district as we collaborated on our District SEL initiative.  Sue has been a constant source of inspiration, support, and hope.  Now more than ever, during COVID times, it is important that we connect to our breath, stay in the present moment, and support each other to be the best versions of ourselves.  Sue has taught me all that and more!  While we no longer work in the same district, I have found new windows to open and help support my district in focusing on self-care and mindfulness as we continue to navigate the challenges that COVID has presented.  My interactions with Sue are my touchstone in my work- they ground me, help me find space to breathe, and provide hope.  Thank you Sue for being you and sharing your light with others!

I can proudly say that I would not be the person that I am today without Sue Cooney. She is unlike any person that you will ever meet in that she radiates light and calming energy. I have been blessed enough to have been her student in many ways: yoga, workshops, mindfulness, meditation, and counseling. Wisdom pours out of her, effortlessly, as she delivers the exact information intended for you to be able to grow. Uncovering our fullest potential, she works tirelessly with her students, clients, and community as a whole. We are all more compassionate, courageous, and mindful because of her. Thank you, Sue.

Sue Cooney is unlike anyone I have ever met. She is compassionate, open-minded, understanding, empathetic, powerful, passionate, eager to help, intelligent (beyond belief), wise, and gracious. She listens with her entire heart, and responds with inner wisdom so profound, you know she has received that information from a higher power. She has helped me so much in my life in these last few years. Meeting her and learning from her, has inspired me to step more fully into my authentic self.  She reminds everyone she comes across that everything is indeed all well, and that soon it will be. Of all the gifts Sue has bestowed upon me in the last few years, perhaps the most profound has been the gift of breath. Sue reminded me of the power of breathing, that it can change our brain chemistry and get us out of uncomfortable situations and feelings. I now implement her breathing exercises with my students, and with myself.  Sue has been one of my most important teachers along my journey. She has inspired me to be my true self and to also see others in this light as well. She reminds everyone she comes across that life is just an experience, and we can always keep growing and expanding. Sue is a phenomenal mentor, friend, teacher, and person. I am beyond grateful to Sue for everything she has helped me to remember. Meeting her has changed my life, as I know it has for everyone lucky enough to meet her. I am deeply grateful to her for all that she has taught me. She has given me the gift of remembering my breath (what could be more sacred?), she has reminded me of my inner power and truth, and helped me to extend that love to others. She is a magical, beautiful person, and once you meet her (if only for a moment), you are transformed. I will always and forever remember how she has helped me along my journey.

Ms. Cooney's sessions were motivational and important to our team's overall connection and stability. Mental training helped to prepare the team for competition and set good physical and mental habits for my teammates and me.

There was a direct correlation between our team's overall success and the mindfulness/movement training that you provided once a week all season long to the boys. Your delivery was spot on with mindful talk throughout the session and the boys truly learned how to relax through savasana. They also applied their relaxation and breathing tips to their sleeping pattern at night allowing them to sleep better at night. I totally believe that the Wizards were more mentally tough in stressful game situations due to your sessions throughout the season. They stayed in the present while remaining calm and were mindful of what they did and didn't have control of during the game. One of the quotes that I use at the beginning of the season is: "There are four ins for a team to be great." You absolutely helped the boys to Buy-In, Belief In, All In, and Locked In. Thank -you once again for all that you did for these boys. We all appreciate your time and commitment to our success this season!

I just thought you did a tremendous job of incorporating team building, team chemistry, and mental preparedness into our players and program.

I’ll always credit Sue Cooney with saving me. Because I was dark. I was 63 years old and unemployed, and out of date, and needing to reinvent myself.  I was convinced I was useless.

I was lost, literally and figuratively, when I first met her on a Wednesday night in the rain three years ago. When I first stumbled into the big red barn not 10 minutes down the road from my house –The Body Art Studio. I was lost, could barely see, and I knew I’d be late. I went by the place about 3 times before I finally said this must be the place.  I parked, and walked tentatively in.

From the outside, it was very dark. But I saw silhouettes beyond the glass doors, a soft light at the front outlining the shapes. I was turning to leave, discouraged, when a woman with a renaissance face and a beatific smile came to the door and said “come in.”

She opened the door and nodded toward the light.

That is what Sue Cooney does. That is her gift. There are no words, really. Just something. Something she radiates. Something almost palpable. Call it peace. Call it wisdom. Call it head-exploding.

Somehow, she knew what I needed.  She reminded me who I am. What I had to offer.   What I should be remembering.  That everything I (we) need is already inside us. There is a bigger “I am.” And the universe really does have our back.

She helped me get back my YAY!

That’s my story. I know – I have seen – so many other lives she has touched, how much awareness and understanding and aha she has left in her wake.

There are no words to express how grateful I am to have stumbled into Sue that rainy night.   Maybe now she does…

Thank you for everything this season Ms. Cooney, I appreciate the time you took to help us all out a lot. You are a big reason for our success this year with no real injuries the whole season for everyone on the team.

I started working with Susan in 2017. I was struggling physically and emotionally as a result of a terrible car accident. I was unable to work and was spending a lot of time at home alone. I needed help or some guidance with my life at that point. During this challenging time, she was there, just guiding me in the right direction allowing me to feel confident enough to make all of the decisions on what I was going to do next for me. She encouraged me to focus on my needs and to pay attention to my thoughts and my physical responses. I learned to allow myself to heal over the past couple of years. I learned that I am not my job and I am not what everybody else perceives me to be; I am just me, my authentic self, my loving self and I learned that by working with Susan.

Sue creates a safe space where You can uncover areas of misalignment. She does not solve your problem. She guides you to a place where you are ready to take the next step-whatever that may be. Even if that next step is accepting where you are and waiting for the lesson to be learned. With Sue, you are safe, and able to deal with the uncomfortable.
